BREAKING : Accident on Route 151 in Spruce Creek S. of Nellysford – Updated 1-19-08

Updated: 1-19-08

In a comment added to the initial post, Sue Bernard who owns a shop right where the accident happens told us this:

“This accident involved 3 vehicles and thankfully no one was seriously injured. A car traveling north on 151 hit a car making a right turn (to the north) from Glenthorn Loop. The third vehicle was traveling south and was struck by the first two cars. This is a bad intersection and probably speed was a factor.”

Thanks for giving us some details on the accident Sue. We do know that intersection is on the 6 year plan to be modified, and as this proves, it’s needed! This is the second such wreck we know of in the past 18 months there.

  1. This accident involved 3 vehicles and thankfully no one was seriously injured. A car traveling north on 151 hit a car making a right turn (to the north) from Glenthorn Loop. The third vehicle was traveling south and was struck by the first two cars. This is a bad intersection and probably speed was a factor. Even if you look carefully before you pull out, a car traveling just a little too fast can surprise you. This is the fifth accident in front of the gallery that I have witnessed in the past few years.

  2. I live on Spruce Creek Lane, where the accident happened. That intersection is so dangerous, I hold my breath every time I have to pull out there. My mom takes a right and goes to a turn around with more visibility before travelling towards her original destination.

A mirror on that one big tree across from the exit, pointed so that people can see around the curve would help immensely in the interim before other improvements can be made.

I am surprised, but thankful, that there are not more accidents there. It is beyond dangerous and you take your life into your own hands every time you pull out. It warrants a 35 MPH speed limit to slow down the traffic that flies around that curve like it was a banked turn at the Indy 500.

Hopefully someone I love or know wont have to die to get this fixed ASAP.
