Nelson Board of Supervisors apparently never asked for restrictions on Route 151

Contrary to media reports, the Nelson Board of Supervisors (BOS) has yet to submit a request to the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) to restrict truck traffic on Route 151. Various media accounts have reported that the BOS asked for restrictions last fall, only to be denied by the CTB claiming the cut-through – from Rt. 151 to Rt. 6 to U.S. 29 – failed to meet requirements for restricted traffic. According to an email Project 151 obtained this evening, the CTB has yet to receive a truck restriction request from the BOS.

The email is a response from VDOT spokesperson Paula K. Jones to a Freedom of Information Act request submitted by Afton businessman Phillip D’Ambola (at his request, we have blacked out his email address from the document). In it, Jones attaches a copy of the “Through Truck Restriction Guidelines“, the same guidelines CTB uses when it receives such requests.

So we are left wondering: How could the CTB have denied a BOS request it never received?
